Sine Mora is going to be the toughest one I think. I think all those achievements are time based.

    • Wibblewozzer

The time ones anyone could get. The skill based part of it is nuts. Sine Mora’s achievements are usually a list of eight or so in-game goals, including having achieved the ranks prior to that particular one. So the “easiest” of the three posted for the game” is third-to-last rank in the game and requires a 1CC run of the story mode, as well as a huge time investment since it requires beating the game with a ton of different ship/character combinations and plenty of other notable challenges.

Considering even getting six achievements from the other two games is a decent challenge (not for Banjo but Hydro Thunder getting all golds is had by only like 2% of people on trueachievements, com, and those are achievement fans) you still need at least one of the Sine Mora achievements and those are very, very difficult.

I’d love to know if anyone is actually successful this week.

I’m also curious what exactly the process goes into picking which achievements work for each game. It really should be spread across the spectrum of difficulty with perhaps one from each game being particularly challenging so that there’s at least a little closer to people being able to win. I’m not asking for complete ease and I really do enjoy the challenge and having to work on it, but something like this week seems a bit too much and not as well thought out. Then again we don’t know what goes on behind the scenes and maybe they really are looking to get it down to fewer than five winners a week?

      • http://twitter.com/Newdeck Gerard Newdeck

A lot if thought you put into this. I just don’t think I have the time to pull these achievements off, having never played the two. I do have all the hydro thunder ones though.

      • Anonymous

I think the SEVEN requirement is what killed it for me. Means there’s no way you can do it with two out of the 3 games on the list. I own Hydro Thunder but have none of those cheeves, but would think about buying one of the other two and participating if it didn’t (A) seem impossible to do them all in 2 days and (B) was only one of the other two and not both.

Also, I know it’s a free contest and all and blah blah they’re doing us a favor by having the comp at all, but from what I’ve seen on CAG, a lot of people that win these contests already own the prizes and just end up selling their winnings. Also, the prizes have been kind of crappy for the work involved… orcs must die dlc and a beta key for a game that’s only in beta for a month or so (Hybrid)? Joe Danger and it’s DLC; I guess it’s preference, but if they expect us to spend $30 on games we don’t own yet, you’d think they could actually give two complete games and not dlc / beta codes.

        • Johan

I know people who’ve won and, sure, they get codes for games they already have but I’ve never heard of anyone just getting DLC, and the Hybrid code has to have been BS by whoever you saw posting it. That code was free and easy to get (you just went to the website and signed up).

Another thing is that I don’t think you’re seeing these contests the right way. This is an XBLA site for XBLA fans – the idea isn’t for you to not own any XBLA games, see what games they want you to play and then buy them. It’s not a “contest” to see who has the most disposable income! The idea is that you probably already own at least one of them, since you’re an XBLA fan and they almost always mix it up with new and old games. Also, the idea isn’t for you to see this as a chore or to consider the “work involved.” You’re supposed to just like XBLA from the get-go and WANT to play these games for the fun of it, and if you happen to have the time and skill required, you get free stuff for it! If you’re not too much of an XBLA fan and these criteria don’t fit you, I’m not sure that you should be assuming that this contest is for you.

I will agree that this challenge is a little harsh, though. Two of the high-tier hardest games on XBLA, and picking the hardest achievements in each, is a little much! The only way I can see anyone winning is if they, like me, are lucky enough to have already completed one of the hard games.

          • Anonymous

Just throwing out that I actually got the Hybrid beta and the OMD DLC as “prizes”. The same week I got the OMD prize, I also got DLC for Toy Soldiers. I’ve also seen plenty of people on the CAG thread with pinball tables as prizes. Granted, it’s all perception, as I’d actually like the pinball tables as prizes, but that’s just about the ONLY dlc i’d want. And, you can’t tell me that grinding through a game in 2 days to get the final 2 or 3 achievements isn’t some kind of work. As soon as you put a time limit on it, it stops being “just for fun” if you’re trying to win the prize.

          • Anonymous

I would say the pinball tables are fine as prizes. At least with that, it’s DLC for a free game, so you’re not required to have previously spent money to be able to use the code (I’m assuming they are Pinball FX 2 codes).

          • http://twitter.com/VictorLizcano77 Victor Lizcano

I did get the Hybrid beta code and Toy Soldiers DLC in the only cheeve challenge I’ve won. But I still am NOT posting this to complain. Heck, I don’t even own Toy Soldiers but… well Alex already explained, it’s their job, etc. etc. If you can take part of the challenge, do it. IF you can’t then don’t… but don’t bite the hand that feeds you. Just have fun, that’s what this is all about.

          • Johan

@twitter-199317073:disqus & @ThePootermobile:disqus That is kinda messed up if they sent out beta codes you could just head over to another site to pick up, but yeah, I’m sure the team doesn’t get to pick codes and aren’t allowed to generate any for whatever game. It would certainly make sense if they aren’t allowed to give out games from other publishers.

But on the other hand, I’m not sure why they can’t just be transparent with it? The competition is mostly for fun after all, but if all I’m getting is DLC for a game I don’t own and a beta code I can easily get otherwise, I’ll just decide not to spend the time. That’s more fair to everyone than having the blog post say “Two game codes.” I guess “game codes” could be stretched to include DLC, but that’s not exactly daily gamer vernacular. We interpret it as “two free games.” Just say what the prize is and everyone will be happy!

  • http://twitter.com/toythatkills mAtt

Oh wow, this is super-hard. I’m totally out this week!

  • Jeff Randall

I really had fun when these challenges were first started. But lately they’ve been so hard to accomplish, I’ve come to the realization that I’m done. The past three challenges have been well beyond my ability to finish and it just hasn’t been fun trying to get some of these nearly impossible achievements. I am amazed that some people can actually do it. They are definitely better than I am, and deserve the reward. Good luck guys and gals, I wish you all the best!

    • Anonymous

I too miss the fun participating on the first challenges… I bought 1 or 2 games required and thoroughly tried to get the needed achievements during the weekend.

I understand that there is certain budget to spend, but having a strike of 0 games out of 3 these past fews weeks I can’t really take part and the fun is gone…

  • http://twitter.com/AntaraelDulacre Antarael Dulacre

Yeah….no, I’m out again…I wish I knew about this site when this was still doable *sigh*

    • http://twitter.com/RudolfKingnBear Rodolfo Antonio

      Me too :(

  • Anonymous

Today’s Friday? Man I hate being sick. I lose all track of time.

  • http://twitter.com/Newdeck Gerard Newdeck

I kinda want to try it but buying two 1200 point games I was never interested in is pushing it for me. I’ll probably do it if I’m bored.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Raymond-Hein/100000529452384 Raymond Hein

Well you cant expect them to just hand out codes they did tell us before E3 that they were going to get tougher i cant do these either but im happy that they are still doing it GO TEAM PLAYXBLA alex your still hot ;)

    • http://twitter.com/RudolfKingnBear Rodolfo Antonio

Total support for the last sentence.

      • http://twitter.com/VictorLizcano77 Victor Lizcano

Hell yeah! (Sorry too late… kinda sleepy)

  • http://twitter.com/RudolfKingnBear Rodolfo Antonio

The only game I have is Sine mora and I can say that is a game extremely difficult for the average player especially the achievements as they are at final ranks and will not be easy to get them out of here until Monday, I have not played much yet but I can say that Dies Irae is extremely difficult I’ve only seen a couple of people with all the points I would give 10/10 to the difficulty of achievements.

Good luck to the machines that achieve this feat.

  • Anonymous

I have two of these three games, but I don’t think I have any of those achievements.

  • Frank Meijer

Good luck people, I’m out. Only have Sine Mora and I suck at it.

  • Patrick

How do you sign up your gamertag for this?

    • http://twitter.com/toythatkills mAtt

When you earn the seven achievements, email them with your gamertag. You don’t need to “sign up,” just let them know you completed it when complete it.

  • http://twitter.com/GearsOfMush Jason Allan

Disappointed as there is not even a new title. Normally it’s the latest released game and two others. Wheres some challenges for the Sega Classics, Pinball FX2, Peggle, geo wars. Oh well, these did used to be fun.

    • http://twitter.com/louiedog louiedog

This is a Microsoft Studios site and they use Microsoft Studios games.

  • http://www.thetjhzone.blogspot.com/ Tylerh1701

If I thought even one of those Sine Mora ones were possible, I’d get the 2 I was missing in Hydro Thunder and then buy Sine Mora and get one. But I’m pretty sure those Sine Mora ones are the 3 hardest ones in the game, right?

  • Capn_Franky

The fact this is hard doesn’t bother me, I love a challenge, it’s the sheer amount of time required to pull off such a feat that has my back up. You are basically required to complete each game at least once, then grind for the next achievements to unlock.

Either requirements need a tweak or the time to complete them needs increasing, then have the awards be reduced to one game should completion numbers be too high.

I know this is a challenge giving away free things so I shouldn’t complain, but when it becomes less fun, more challenging/improbable im going to voice my concern.

Another note, I like to take part in these challenges whilst enjoying the games I’ve bought, this week would cause me to buy three games, not sleep and to rush through them, completely ruining my enjoyment of the wonderfull world of XBLA (and cheevos!).

By all means stick to the name ‘Challenge’, just research a little more into what you are asking us to do as it seems this week was picked at random, a shame as after last weeks drought I was expecting an ‘easier’ challenge.

  • Anonymous

So has anyone actually finished these achievements? I’ve got to sit this week out. Between Father’s Day, and my son’s birthday on Sunday, and other events going on this weekend, this one is a no go for me. For those attempting it though, in the words of General Pepper “Good Luck!”

    • Anonymous

There are handful of people who have all of the achievements in Sine Mora – one of my friends finished this game after 50+hrs, but that said he is EXTREMELY skilled player. I can’t see 99% of players to get these. Probably Microsoft give only few XBLA codes now, so that can explain why the difficulty of these challenges got bumped A LOT.

  • http://twitter.com/343GuiIty_Spark Gilbert Alexander

I have sine mora and those achievements are total CRAZY!!!!

  • Jehovah

According to Doctrine and Covenants 130:22, “The Father has a body of flesh and bones as tangible as man’s.” A common proof text used by Mormons to support Smith’s claim is Genesis 1:26, 27. These passages state:
26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
    J. Reuben Clark, Jr., a member of the LDS First Presidency, used Genesis 1:26, 27 to support his notion that “God is not a formless, spiritual essence, not a being without body, parts, or passions…God is an exalted, omniscient, omnipotent, deified being of the same divine order as the children of his creation and of his own First-born and Only Begotten” (Behold the Lamb of God, pp.179 – 180.)
Writing for the LDS Improvement Era magazine, Anthon H. Lund also makes references to Genesis 1:26 when he states, “That God has neither body, parts, nor passions is the general belief of the Christian world; but it seems to us that the Bible is very clear to the contrary in its statements concerning God, for it teaches that he was created in his likeness” (“Joseph Smith’s First Vision and Scripture Promises,” April, 1920, Vol. xxiii,. No. 6)
LDS President Gordon Hinckley also used this passage when he said, “In his image man was created. He is personal. He is real. He is individual. He has ‘a body of flesh and bones as tangible as man’s.’ (D&C 130:22.) In the account of the creation of the earth, God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness” (“Faith: The Essence of True Religion,” p. 21).
That Latter-day Saints see the Genesis passages as support for their idea that God is corporeal is without question. Nor do knowledgable Latter-day Saints dispute that this is an actual conversation that took place sometime during what Mormons call the preexistence. However, for our Mormon friends to better understand the true meaning of the Genesis passages, we must ask, “Who was involved in the dialogue?”
The answer to this inquiry can be found in Joseph Smith’s Inspired Version of the Bible, otherwise known as the Joseph Smith Translation or JST. In Genesis 1:27 it reads, “And I, God, said unto mine Only Begotten, which was with me from the beginning, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness; and it was so.” Smith’s rendition of Genesis 1:26 can also be found in Lectures Two and Lecture Fifth in the Lectures on Faith, as well as the Book of Moses (2:26) in the Pearl of Great Price.
On page 105 of A Companion to Your Study of the Old Testament, Daniel H. Ludlow agrees that the “Only Begotten’ of God was the pre-earthly Jehovah, who came to earth as Jesus Christ. Thus, God the Father was speaking to Jesus Christ on that occasion.” He then goes on to say, “The terms ‘in our image’ and ‘after our likeness’ indicate that God had bodily parts just as man does. This truth has been taught by Joseph Smith.”
This assertion that is held by Ludlow and numerous other members of the LDS Church is certainly a leap in logic unless they can demonstrate that the preincarnate Jehovah had a body of flesh and bones at the time the conversation in Genesis 1:26, 27 took place. Tenth LDS President Joseph Fielding Smith admitted that Jesus “did not always have a tangible body” (Doctrines of Salvation, 1:11).
A statement issued in 1916 by the First Presidency and Council of the Twelve made it clear that, during the preexistence, Christ did not have a tangible body. “In all His dealings with the human family Jesus the Son has represented and yet represents Elohim His Father in power and authority. This is true of Christ in His preexistent, antemortal, or unembodied state, in the which He was known as Jehovah.” (Messages of the First Presidency 5:31, 32. Also cited in the Encyclopedia of Mormonism 4:720, emphasis mine.)
Speaking in conference in April 1921, Charles W. Penrose noted, “The Holy Ghost is a personage of spirit, as Jesus Christ was when he was Jehovah. He was Jehovah from the beginning of the world, according to the history we have in the Old Testament scriptures. He was a personage of spirit, and he came here to the earth that he might be exactly like his brethren and like his Father, and have a body made out of the lower elements of the universe.” (Conference Report, p.12, emphasis mine).
In making a similar distinction between the personages of the LDS godhead, Mormon Apostle Bruce McConkie wrote, “The Holy Ghost has not a body of flesh and bones,’ however, ‘but is a personage of Spirit.’ (D&C 130:22.) He is thus a spirit man, a spirit person, a spirit entity. He lives and moves and has his being separate and apart from his fellow Gods. His spirit body is in all respects comparable to the kind of a body that the Lord Jehovah possessed before that beloved and chosen one made flesh his tabernacle by the process of mortal birth.” (A New Witness for the Articles of Faith, pp.253, 254, emphasis mine.)
Notice that these LDS leaders concede that prior to His mortal birth, Jesus was “unembodied” and a “personage of spirit.” This is the key to discovering the error so many Mormons make when it comes to the Genesis passages. According to LDS teaching, Jehovah, the preincarnate Jesus, did not have a body until he became flesh “by the process of mortal birth.” That being so, it is wrong for Mormons to assume that the words “image” and “likeness” refer to flesh and bones since the Mormon “Jehovah” (and Mormon “Holy Ghost”) had no such image or likeness when the conversation in Genesis 1:26 took place.

How can you make so many Genesis references throughout your post and not even talk about Sonic… aye.

    • Troll Hunter

Now this is trolling. Nice work.

Deliver the gospel achievement. 10 points.

He still lost the weekend cheeve contest though.

  • Rob

Looks like a fun challenge. Too bad I can’t play my xbox for the next few weeks till I get home from Germany!
Looking forward to taking up your challenges soon :)

    • http://twitter.com/343GuiIty_Spark Gilbert Alexander

      Like a fun challenge? really?

Believe me, you don’t know what you say.

      • Rob

I already did the Hydro Thunder game a long time ago. It was a lot of fun getting all gold medals. Banjo Tooie is some light hearted platforming and Sine mora is a very well made shmup, or so i am told.

  • http://twitter.com/kieraninnes1 kieran innes

Well if anyone completes this , well done I have banjo tooie and judging by other peoples comments the others are stupidly difficult

  • Anonymous

The only person I know that finished this challenge had six achievements going into the weekend, and it still took him the whole weekend playing to complete.

  • Anonymous

You guys who choose the games/achievements for the Weekend Challenge are somewhat retarded or troll. Do you have any idea how long it’s going to take you to beat every track with a Gold Medal on Hydro Thunder Hurricane ? A long time, yeah. Oh and then you will have to play Banjo which is going to take again 7hrs+(If not MORE) ? And theres come Sine Mora…Which is a really hard game (And you put hard achievement wow, great idea…) SERIOUSLY, Your previous Weekend Challenge make me bought some Games for the challenge (Joy Ride Turbo,Fruit Ninja, & more) but I didn’t buy any this weekend. Why ? Simply because your selection of achievement are ridiculous and makes non-sense. Let’s say you have 50 hours+ for the Weekend Cheeve Challenge. Even if you are skill enough, it will be impossible to complete the 3 games in 1 weekend. ATLEAST, put more achievements or easy achievement and stick with the 7 requirement. Can’t wait to see the next weekend and hopefully, it will be something decent.

    • Jeff Randall

No need to be calling people names. Its clear that they needed to reduce the number of games given away. And no one forces you to get all the achievements during the weekend of the challenge. I’m glad that this kind of challenge is even offered. And while I would like to see the difficulty reduced, I can understand why they had to do this.

      • Aaron Gallagher

        +1

  • http://twitter.com/343GuiIty_Spark Gilbert Alexander

it’s Monday, Someone complete the challenge?

  • pravvy

    They’re doing it again. Awesome.

Anyone who doesn’t see through this and realize this is just a ploy to help sell new games / games that haven’t been selling well is a damn fool.

The prizes aren’t even worth it, and are random. I got DLC for toy soldiers (which I don’t own) and my friend got some pinball table.

You’re going to spend more money trying to get the prizes than they’re actually worth, don’t let this fool you.
