Weekend Achievement Challenge

The weekend is at hand and that means it’s Achievement Challenge time! The rules are simple, the prizes are awesome, and the challenge is fun! Click Read More for all the details on the Weekend Achievement Challenge!

Every Friday PlayXBLA.com will list three titles that you have to get certain Achievements from to win sweet prizes! The rules for Weekend Achievement Challenge will be listed in the bullet points below, the prizes awarded will have section below that. This is a work in progress, so like with all the other fun events we have on the site we ask your patience and of course feedback! Ok! Enough with the chat and onto the rules!

These challenges are excluding more and more people every week, but not in a good way.

Just forcing people to own all four games is a really cheap way of limiting the number of entries. I think it would be much better to just have more challenging achievements and limit your entries that way. That way people will fail because of the nature of the “challenge,” rather than being forced to not take part.

  Agreed, having challenging achievements limits the amount of entries you’re going to get in a fair way, while still giving everyone a chance to succeed. Certain achievements just require a amount of time that makes the weekend window a “You got it or you don’t” type of situation.
  
  A couple examples using the games listed:
  Limbo: “No Point in Dying”You have to complete the game in one sitting with 5 or less deaths, a challenging but entirely doable goal.
  Trials Evolution: “Demon on Wheels II”All you have to do is beat every extreme track in the game, doesn’t matter how long you take or how many times you fall over, just complete them. With those requirements it’s entirely fair and doable.
  Wreckateer: “Green is Good”Requires you to smash 1,000 goblins total throughout your playtime. You should get this easy if you’re playing the game to 100%.
  
  That’s just my 2 cents though, more than likely there is an outside factor I probably don’t know about that’s making this challenge go the way it is. I guess at the end of the day I would rather have it than not have it though.

I really dislike requiring at least 1 achievement in each game. As someone who does not own a Kinect this completely eliminates me from this, even though I have the other 12 achievements. I could understand if you were giving away Kinect titles this week, but none of the prizes have any Kinect support at all.

Well you could, but there’s no point buying a game (let alone an expensive peripheral!) for a contest you “might” win. Why would anyone do that?

Remember when the place would just FLARE UP whenever a Kinect game came along and was required fare? By trying to include Kinect owners again you’ve created further EXclusion on top of the unfriendly new and “im”proved challenge rules.

I didn’t think last week could be topped in terms of sheer daftness but, well, it has!

How about you give just 1 code as a guaranteed prize for every entry, but keep the 3 code sweepstake as an added jackpot? You’ve got rid of the frauds and made it difficult enough to get the required achievements, so I’m sure you guys could stretch to that right?

Some good feedback already. Seeing as I only have two of the four games (and not played the two I do have, yet), and I also have two of the three prizes, I think I’ll skip out on this one, again. One of these days the stars will align and I’ll just have to play the games I have.

Well I have all of the achievements in each of the games except Wreckateer — since I don’t own that game yet. I did play the demo & it seemed fantastic. This just convinced me to buy it. Even if I don’t win the random drawing, I will still have Wreckateer.
This will be the first time I have been able to complete a challenge in a looooong time. I’ve been coming to this site for months, too.

Man I have all the games & 11 cheeves. If I knew what the duplicate one in LImbo was Id prob have the 12. WIll be the first time in a long time I will actually do the challenge. Also gives me an excuse to play trials some more as thats where Im lacking the cheeves.
I will say having a minimum 1 cheeve in each game is a bit extreme but you guys set the rules. Its up to us whether we particpate or not. You could always post more singing/video challenges for us, you know Id be down for that. :P

I have all of the Trials Evolution, and Full House Poker achievements listed, but don’t own the other two games (and at least with Limbo, don’t want it), so I’ll be passing this week.

If it didn’t require having all four games, I’d probably try out the Wreckateer demo, and maybe pick that up, but even if I had the points for Limbo, I hated the trial of that so that’s not happening.

Poor show insisting on a Kinect title, include but don’t insist, it really limits those able to enter. Asking for a pool of achievements spread over three to four titles is fair to everyone.

Would it not make more sense to have to get 4 achievements from one game? maybe even the prize game from last week’s challenge?
Needing to own Kinect to win a non-Kinect game is ridiculous, not to mention Kinect is just bad and has no real, practical use (apart from dance games) in video games, but, I digress, and there has already been enough hate for these challenges which moderators seem to ignore..

  Not owning a Kinect game would be exactly the same as not owning a non-Kinect game.
  
  It used to be a problem because people would buy the extra games they needed so that they could win, and if one of them was a Kinect game they couldn’t do that. It’s not an issue now because nobody is buying the games they need to enter a prize draw, so it’s completely irrelevant whether one of them is a Kinect game. If it wasn’t a Kinect game you don’t own it would just be a non-Kinect game you don’t own instead, so it doesn’t make a difference, you wouldn’t be able to enter anyway.

Ideas for how to make the challenges worth it? Well, the most prevalent one here on the site seems to be that people want a guaranteed prize.
And boy, do I agree with that. I’d rather be guaranteed something, rather than having an off chance at winning three titles. It’s just not worth it. It would be easier for me to find other contests for those games, with a higher chance of winning, than going through these achievements.
At this point, there’s simply no reason to enter unless you already have 12 achievements AND one in each game. That’s fine with me, I’m not going to complain about the requirements – but seriously, there’s no reason to enter this, unless you already have the achievements. Heck, you could make a weekly challenge, or hourly challenge instead, and it wouldn’t change a thing.

Personally, I don’t care much about knowing WHICH game(s) I get, as long as I know that I get a game (and it’s not some bullshit like Hybrid beta codes which weren’t even useable outside the US).
Heck, it could even be just a couple hundred Microsoft Points. The point is that without guaranteed prizes for completion, any and all reasons for entering are gone completely.
