As if Skin Pack 4 Wasn’t Cool Enough…Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition Retail Disc Version!

With the release of Skin Pack 4 for Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition, we’re excited to announce that Microsoft will soon bring “Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition” to retail as a disc-based version that will let gamers who are not currently connected to Xbox LIVE experience the thrill of Minecraft! This version of “Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition” will contain all the same features and content included in the current version, as well as the new additions coming soon in the ninth title update to the game. The retail game will be exactly the same as the digital version in every way, including support for multiplayer connectivity between the retail game and the digital download, and the retail disc version will receive all the same content and feature updates as the digital version ongoing.

The retail disc will arrive in stores in the US on April 30, and will cost $19.99. The retail package is also coming to Australia, Hong Kong, India, New Zealand, Singapore, and Taiwan in early June.

  Probably not, as people that are buying the disc aren’t on Xbox Live, so no way for MS to track those offline players. :)

    It could. There could still be lots of people buying it just to have a disk version that don’t like buying dital downloads that will buy it too. ;)

      It can’t though, the Live activity list tracks what players connected to Live are playing. The sales can be tracked but that’s about it if players aren’t going to be connected to Live when they play.

        Like I said, there are alot of people buying it because they don’t buy anything from the marketplace, but they will be the disk version and still play it online with there Xbox Live Gold account.

    I don’t know if the answer is obvious. As a *similar* example, the PC and XBox version of Toy Soldiers have separate sets of achievements. They may be the same achievements but I got some of them twice.

      It’s obvious. Your example isn’t similar. The digital version of Minecraft for XBox 360 is not the same as the PC version.

        We also don’t know for sure that the ninth title update won’t have new achievements. It’s unlikely but we don’t know for sure. I can’t recall an xbox live arcade game that’s been released as retail by itself so this may be new territory. Anyway, my real point is that just because the answer to a question seems obvious to a particular person, doesn’t mean that person has to be a jerk about it.

        At release, Xbox live arcade games usually have 200 achievement points and retail games usually have 1000 achievement points. Guess which Xbox live arcade game soon will be a retail game.

  Nope. As it states, its to allow those who are not currently connected to Xbox LIVE experience the thrill of Minecraft. Quite a few silver accounts I would assume and you can’t download Minecraft XBLA without XBL Gold, obviously. ;)

Title updates can’t support achievements they already said, it would have to be DLC and for that they charge… No one wants an update that cost money.
