I’ve been playing with this in Wreckateer and I have to say it is pretty well implemented. What is interesting is that your level of fame unlocks rewards in other games as well, not just the one you’re playing. In my instance in addition to unlocking the Knight costume in Wreckateer it also unlocked the costumes for Sheep (Keflings) and Jack of Spades (Poker). Launching the Ballista dressed as a sheep is pretty funny. I really want to unlock the Ratbeard one. :) It’s just too bad you can’t use these costumes for your avatar outside these games, that would’ve been sweet.
One minor gripe I have is that some of the challenges involving costumes appear to not work properly, but that is probably due to the other games not being patched for this yet. There is one challenge that tasks you with finishing 20 stages in Wreckateer wearing a costume from another game. I did not get any credit towards this challenge completing stages as a sheep. Hopefully that bug will be fixed soon, and before the weekly challenge expires.
Overall, I think this is a great addition and provides an added incentive to put more time and effort into playing, in the same way traditional achievements and Game Score does now.

They can’t be used outside of those games? Well…there goes most of my interest in this.

      • Meh

Yeah, that is pretty stupid. I would have wanted any of these “rewards” for my actual Avatar to use at any time.

        • Roku750

The RPG looking ones in Wreckateer would’ve sold me on the game if I could use them elsewhere. Right now the only other game I care about in the lineup is Keflings, but hopefully more will be added as time passes.

  • sans gluten

Very cool! Love the Keflings Famestar awards.

  • http://twitter.com/ilRadd ilRadd

Very cool – is there a date when this will be available?

    • Anonymous

I’m under the impression that it launches tomorrow with Wreckateer, but I could be mistaken about that.

      • Lee Rayson

Famestar launches tomorrow with Wreckateer and for older games im guessing there be an update for them at some point, im thinking world keflings update will be when they release the new DLC

        • Anonymous

Isn’t the launch date for Wreckateer the 25th? That would be the day after tomorrow.

          • Lee Rayson

correct thought it was tuesday :P

          • Anonymous

            So did I… :/

  • Anonymous

I can’t be the only one who is surprised to learn that Fire Pro Wrestling is still a thing that is happening.

    • Lee Rayson

I thought it had been canned, but by the looks of it it has been redesgined it looked much better than before

      • Anonymous

It looks awfully similar to when I played it at PAX East 2011… Hopefully it has improved significantly since then.

    • Libasse

      When is it comming out

  • SoopahSawneck

    There’s an Avatar wrestling game?

    • Anonymous

There is. It was announced a couple of years ago, I think at the same press conference where the Kinect Steel Batallion was announced.

  • http://twitter.com/MarkEightThree MarkEightThree

How is this any different from the current Avatar Awards?

    • Lee Rayson

Because Famestar is to do with Avatar games.

    • Anonymous

1- They are available across all the games that support Famestars.
2- They are not available outside these games (ie you can’t see them on your dashboard)
3- You don’t earn them by getting to a certain point in the game like most Avatar rewards. Instead you have to “level up” your character by doing many specific tasks in each of these games to earn points.

  • SoopahSawneck

I think they should include Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing. You CAN play as your avatars.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/AVEAGCA6E7MA4SW5PXW4GLSNQE A

    good lord this is lame

  • Jimmy

Sounds like a dumb Idea, particularly this late in the 360′s lifecycle.

    • Anonymous

It’s really no worse than Game Score.

    • Kelsey Martineau

The “avatar’ and gamerscore for that matter will be around for a long, LONG time after 360 dies.

  • http://twitter.com/Navarin Buster Wolf

So… they’re Avatar Awards only restricted to certain games? What a pointless exercise.

Pretty sure everyone must have 250/250 in A World of Keflings by now and Full House Poker was left to die by Microsoft, let alone the players. These should have been actual Avatar Awards.

  • http://twitter.com/seekul Luke Es | sE ekuL

This article still has three different capitalisation conventions for “famestar”. Kinda confusing.

  • http://twitter.com/Lucky13X Lucky13X

This actually is a VERY fun way to get me back into great titles like A World of Keflings, and I am actually starting to enjoy that 1 vs 100 replacement Full House Poker(still not as good as the show though.)
